The first house ever designed by John Kennedy was his own and was concerned with how to integrate a dwelling into a rural landscape with appropriate massing and scale. The solution was two low pitched blocks with a large glazed space between, a recurrent theme seen in later projects. The overall composition is completed with a garage building and garden walls which form a sequence of external spaces clearly defining forecourt, courtyard entrance and garden. Designing, self-building and living in his own house proved a challenging but invaluable experience.
